WWE Needs to Avoid the Temptaion of Rob Van Dam
Rob Van Dam.
The man is an icon and a personal favorite of mine.
Since his departure from the WWE in 2007, I have always held out hope that he would eventually make his return to Monday nights.
With reports speculating on several online sources such as Wrestling Inc. reporting that Van Dam will return to the WWE once his contract with TNA expires in March, one word immediately came to mind.
Don’t.
John Cena’s Uncertainty Should Lead to More TLC PPV Buys
TLC is a mere two days away, and John Cena has not been added to the card!
Some folks are predicting that Cena will not have a match in this year’s final (thankfully) pay-per-view of the year, and instead may serve as the special guest referee in the United States Championship Match between Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler.
The WWE’s Twitter Obession is Becoming Unbearable
A few months ago, I wrote an article focusing on the impact of Social Media in Professional Wrestling, and lo and behold the “Reality Era” came to pass.
CM Punk and, to a lesser extent, Zack Ryder’s ushering in of this new era created a buzz and excitement not experienced in the WWE in a long time.
Over the course of the last few weeks, the WWE, as it so often does, has almost entirely deflated the buzz from this past summer. In case you’ve been out of the loop, Raw has become a de facto plug-in for Twitter.
The Not So Awesome Truth About Survivor Series
Survivor Series is only five days away.
The Rock is making his triumphant return to the ring after a seven year absence.
We should all be eagerly anticipating Sunday, November 20.
Yet, I’m not.
Timing Is Key for a John Cena Heel Turn
For what seems like an eternity, members of the IWC have been clamoring for a John Cenaheel turn. His character has become so stale and predictable that almost every wrestling fan not wearing diapers has grown tired of his act.
Now I agree with my peers in that Cena’s heel turn is long past due, however, I disagree that the timing should occur during the already played out “conspiracy theory” angle.
I know that we wrestling fans are supposed to suspend our belief on reality in these increasingly weak storylines, but are we really supposed to believe that the company man John Cena is going to go Hulk Hogan on us and turn his back on the fans?
Please.
Zack Ryder’s Social Media Revolution
Over the years, professional wrestling has had its share of mainstream success. From the rise of the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin during the famed “Attitude Era” to the more recent success of John Cena.
Yet recently, professional wrestling, and its largest corporation, World Wrestling Entertainment, has been struggling to recapture the fire and excitement from years past. Some blame the shift towards more family friendly programming the WWE has been featuring, while others blame the rise of the Internet and the so-called Smarks (Smarter than the Average Joe wrestling fan).
Whatever the reason, the WWE had seen a steady decline in ratings and mainstream exposure.
Over the course of the last few months, the WWE has seen a nice spike in fan interest in programming due to storylines that involve real life tensions.
